The Coronial inquest into the Hillcrest Jumping castle tragedy has heard testimony from a schoolteacher, who told the court the impact of the 2021 incident forced him into early retirement.
Steven Fenn, a grade 5/6 teacher, recalled seeing the dust devil rip across the oval describing it as like nothing he had ever seen or experienced before.
Mr. Fenn was standing under a gazebo next to the inflatable when it was lifted in the air by a freak wind.
Jumping castle operator Rosemary Gamble is due to give evidence this week as the inquest turns focus to the Australian safety standards for inflatable amusement devices.
Retired police detective Kim Steven who was on the oval that day, also set to give evidence.
The inquest is being held this week across the Paranaple Center and Magistrates Court in Devonport in front of Coroner Olivia McTaggart.
