Tasmania’s Wage Price Index grew 0.9% for the three months ending March, the second highest behind Western Australia.
Annual wage growth was 3.2% for Tasmania, the highest being Canberra at 3.9%.
The overall increase for Australia was 3.4%, with federal Treasurer Jim Chalmers hailing the result.
“We’ve got wages growing and inflation falling and those are really the key elements of this soft landing that we have been engineering in our economy at a time of really substantial global economic uncertainty.”
The higher wage growth is not expected to cause the Reserve Bank to pause cutting interest rates.
