Stronger buy local protocols

Tasmanian business is being given a bigger head start when pitching government tenders.

The Liberal state government's buy local policy is being cranked up further in response to the pandemic downturn.

It entails winding up the economic and social benefits weighting to 25%, up from 20%.

According to an appreciative Small Business Council, that means local operations will get a 25% head start on mainland and international competition.

Also the low value procurement level rises from $50,000 to $100,000, allowing government purchasing officers more scope for rapid local transactions.
