Emergency hospital funding crticised

The Hodgman Government is under fire over yesterday's announcement of extra funding for the state's two biggest hospitals.

Both the Launceston General, and the Royal Hobart hospitals have been experiencing emergency department pressure, and the government has allocated an extra $1.5 million dollars in funding until the end of the year to assist.

But AMA Tasmania President, Dr John Davis, is not convinced the extra funding will make much difference.

"$1.5 million dollars, split between two hospitals for six months and not part of a strategic plan going forward, I'm not quite sure what the logic is."

However treasurer Peter Gutwein says the measures should be given a chance to work.

"What we want to do is to put these measures in place, assess them, see if they work, and if they do work, as the experts believe that they will, then obviously we can provide further investment into the future."
