While many events have been cancelled due to the pandemic, Mona is promising something to look forward to in its 2021 season of Mona Foma.

There are still events to be finalised for Mona's high summer festival, but two major events have just been announced.

The exhibitions include a display at the iconic K&D Warehouse in Hobart, as well as a laser display in Launceston's Cataract Gorge.

Tasmania will be treated to the world premiere of Aqua Luma from acclaimed artist Robin Fox.

Aqua Luma includes a unique electronic composition that travels directly to your smartphone, immersing you in the soundscape, as twelve metre-high water jets erupt with the rhythm, and high lasers beam patterns overhead.

The free, family-friendly event will take place as night falls, and will run on a 20-minute cycle from Friday 15 to Sunday 17 January from 9.30 – 11.30pm at the First Basin, Cataract Gorge, Launceston.

The following weekend in Hobart, the old K&D Warehouse site will undergo a makeover to house a series of artworks selected by Mona curator Emma Pike.

The 'No Place Like Home' exhibition will include video installations, sculptures and art by local and international artists alike.

The site, currently owned by the University of Tasmania, will serve as a backdrop for the event, which will run on Thursday 21 & Friday 22 January (4.00-8.00pm) and Saturday 23 & Sunday 24 January (12.00-8.00pm), at K&D Warehouse, Melville Street, Hobart, with a $10 + booking fee.

The full 2021 program will be announced on Monday 7 December with all tickets on sale from 10am on Tuesday 8 December.

Mona assures that this year’s festival will take into account the changed circumstances necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mona Foma is supported by the Tasmanian Government through Events Tasmania. Aqua Luma is supported by the City of Launceston.
