Two men stabbed during NSW home invasion

A man has been hospitalised after being stabbed eight times in the back and neck during a home invasion on the NSW mid-north coast.

A 78-year-old man opened the door of his Hawks Nest home about 10.30pm on Monday and was confronted by three unknown men, police say.

They pushed past him, assaulted him and stabbed him in the abdomen before going upstairs and assaulting a 53-year-old man.

He was initially stabbed in the back while trying to escape, then stabbed an additional seven times in the back and neck as he sought to run away.

Police say the men stole a purse and car keys from a 40-year-old woman before fleeing on foot.

The younger man was flown to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition, while the older man was driven to the same hospital suffering a stab wound and head injuries. He is in a stable condition.
