Three people have died in three days after their cars crashed into trees alongside NSW country highways.

A woman in her 60s died after her four-wheel drive left the highway and slammed into a tree in northern NSW.

Police say the woman's 4WD was discovered on the side of the Kamilaroi Highway south of Narrabri on Sunday morning. The driver died at the scene.

Meanwhile, a 23-year-old man has died in a Sydney hospital three days after his vehicle crashed into a tree in the state's central west.

The car veered off the Mid Western Highway at Grenfell in the early hours of Thursday, and the driver was subsequently airlifted to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition.

The young man died on Friday, NSW Police said in a statement on Sunday.

In another road incident, a man is dead and a woman fighting for her life after their car crashed into a tree near Dubbo on Saturday afternoon.

The male driver, 39, died at the scene in Mendooran while his 40-year-old female passenger was pulled from the vehicle and airlifted to Westmead Hospital.
