Push to ditch COVID isolation

At least two state premiers are pushing for covid isolation requirements to be scrapped.

At Friday’s National Cabinet meeting, Jeremy Rockliff will join his New South Wales counterpart Dominici Perrottet in calling for isolation rules to be dumped, except for those who work in high-risk settings.

Mr Rockliff says he understands the importance of a nationally-consistent approach and he looks forward to further discussion today.

“The Tasmanian Government supports in-principle the removal of mandatory isolation periods, which acknowledges the low number of COVID-19 cases in the community,” he said. 

“The removal of the mandatory isolation period will have a significantly positive impact on local business and the current workforce shortages many sectors are experiencing.”

It would allow those who test positive but don’t have symptoms to avoid isolation.
