Public service sex abuse update

Of 43 staff suspended from Tasmania’s public service for child sex abuse allegations since October 2020, a parliamentary committee has been told four have been found in breach of the code of conduct.

The Premier’s revealed 27 of the cases are in the North and 16 are in the south, with 11 in total found to have no breach.

“We are doing all we can in terms of the LGH, in February this year we announced the critical steps being taken to strengthen child safety in hospitals and health settings, the government implements the recommendations from the child safe governance review, customised and mandatory training is being rolled out to all staff.

The Launceston General Hospital and Ashley Youth Detention Centre have featured heavily in abuse claims that were examined by a Commission of Inquiry.
