The coroner has been unable to determine which of two boys lit a fatal shed fire in suburban Launceston late last year.

Robert Webster has looked into the November tragedy at Mowbray which claimed the life of one of the boys, aged just three, and left the other with burns.

His Honour agreed with a TFS and Police Forensics investigation which found the pair accessed a garden shed full of accelerants and poured some out before one of them ignited it.

One child escaped with some burns but the other couldn’t be saved.

“I am satisfied there are no suspicious circumstances and there is no evidence of a third
person being involved in this shed fire. The cause is accidental,” said his Honour.

“This very tragic event has had life-changing effects on not only one but two families and their
friends.”

The Coroner has recommended parents properly educate their children on fire danger, as well as ensuring they can’t access lighters, matches or flammable liquids.
