Police today conducted a number of searches and took a man into custody in Launceston in relation to recent firearms incidents.
Northern Criminal Investigation Branch, Drug Investigation Services and the Police Dog Handle Unit have today searched several addresses in the greater Launceston area.
Searches were conducted in Ravenswood, Newnham, Mowbray and Kings Meadows. The searches form part of the investigation into recent reports of firearms being discharged in public places or into private dwellings.
As a result of the searches police have located and seized 2 x firearms, firearm parts, a large quantity of ammunition and a vehicle.
A 20-year-old man from Ravenswood was arrested and remains in police custody awaiting interview. The man does not have a current firearms licence. He is likely to be charged later tonight with a number of offences and detained for court.
One of the firearms seized is believed to be the weapon that was used in the recent incident where shots were fired in a Waverley residence.
