Backdown on mergers won’t change Local Government Review Board agenda

The chair of the Local Government Review Board and former Central Coast Mayor Sue Smith says the State Government’s announcement at the weekend that it won’t force any council amalgamations won’t change the review and focus of the board.

Ms Smith says the board will continue the review process ahead of handing its final report to Local Government Minister Nic Street in October.

She says it’s ultimately the State Government’s call what happens after that.

“It’s made no difference,” Ms Smith said.

“The Minister’s made it very clear – we finish our report and we finish our report and we hand it into the Government at the end of October, and then it’s their business,” she said.

So, from the point of the review board, it’s steady as we go, continue our work and finish the report.”

“After that, it’s there for Local Government, local communities to converse about and make their decisions.”

The deadline for community feedback is August 2nd.
