UPDATE | Facebook appears to be partially working again for some users on Thursday.
There are still some issues around posting updates and the like though.
EARLIER | Don't bother trying to check Facebook or Instagram on Thursday as neither is working still.
Facebook said it is aware of the problem which is also affecting Messenger and Instagram. Currently neither the APP nor the desktop versions appear to be working.
News Corp reports that according to downdector.com, which monitors websites, the outages started around 3:00AM AEST in parts of the United States, including the East and West Coast, parts of Europe and elsewhere.
Facebook has said it is working to resolve the issue.
Emergency services communication centres have been bombarded by people upset about not being able to access Facebook and Instagram.
FACEBOOK DOWN – social saga as at 10.30am Thu 14/3.— Qld Fire & Emergency (@QldFES) March 14, 2019
QFES advises Facebook and Insta are down and Zuckers is on the job. If affected, we recommend non-digital activities. Check your smoke alarms, review your home fire safety plan... and phone a friend, not Triple Zero (000).
The SES has also received calls for assistance from frustrated social media users.
It comes after Gmail crashed on Wednesday.
The outage was the result of a problem at Google and impacted users worldwide.
Google sent users the following message, "The problem with Gmail should be resolved".
"We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and continued support.
"Please rest assured that system reliability is a top priority at Google and we are making continuous improvements to make our systems better" the message read.
Then the clever people within the Queensland Police Service's media team posted the below.
Do not call Triple Zero about your #Gmail account being down.— Queensland Police (@QldPolice) March 13, 2019
I was just about to collect USD$10.5million from an inheritance too... 👀
