A Big Win for Workers

Millions of Australians are set to take home more money after the Fair Work Commission announced a 4.75% increase to award wages. The pay rise will come into effect from July 1 and is expected to benefit around 2.8 million workers across the country. For workers on the National Minimum Wage, the increase means hourly pay will jump from $24.95 to $26.44. That’s an extra $56.90 a week for a full-time employee, pushing weekly earnings above the $1,000 mark.

Who Benefits?

The increase applies to workers covered by modern awards, including many Australians employed in retail, hospitality, cleaning, administration, aged care and other essential industries. If you’re paid according to an award, the increase should automatically appear in your pay packet from the first full pay period after July 1.

Why It Matters

The decision comes as many households continue to feel pressure from rising living costs. Unions had pushed for a larger increase, while business groups argued for a smaller rise. The Fair Work Commission ultimately settled on 4.75%, aiming to balance cost-of-living relief for workers with the challenges facing employers.

More Money on the Way

For millions of Aussies, this means a little extra breathing room in the household budget and a welcome boost just in time for the new financial year.
